Olive Schijns:  Legislation Chairperson

Olive was born in Egmont Bay, PEI, and at an early age moved to New Glasgow, NS.  After her father died the family moved to Halifax, NS.  She met her husband, Fred in New Glasgow.  He had joined the Navy, so they were posted to Ottawa, Moncton, NB, Gander, NFLD, Maryland, US and he also spent time at sea.  Was married for 51 years.  She lost her husband in 2006.  They had four girls.  Their third daughter was born Spinal Bifida and she lived until she was 21 years old.  Olive has 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Olive spends her summer at her trailer, which she enjoys.  She is a Ham Radio Operator and have had her licence since 1979.  She also has her boating licence.

Olive has been involved with Girl Guides of Canada for 42 years, as a Tawny of Brown Owl and also Commissioner for Gananogue and area.  She is also with thr Trefoil ladies (which are the women who do not work in the units with the girls).  In the last few years she had done the cash books for a Spark and a Brownie unit.

Olive has been a member of the Catholic Women's League council at St. John the Evangelist in Gananoque since the 1980's and has held different positions, including President.

Olive is currently the Chairperson of the Kingston Archdiocesan Council Legislation Standing Committee.
